Same idea, different pictures
Several languages blind the victim. English pulls the wool over the eyes, perhaps a wig tugged down over a man's face. French throws powder in them, jeter de la poudre aux yeux, and Russian powders the brain, пудрить мозги.
Others tell stories. Russian hangs noodles on your ears, вешать лапшу на уши, French tells salads, raconter des salades, and Latvian blows little ducks, pūst pīlītes. Romanian walks around with a painted crow, a umbla cu cioara vopsită, passing it off as a finer bird. English can also tell tall tales.
