Meaning: To take the easy part at the start and leave the hard part for later.
Literally: To eat one's white bread first
Example: “Les premières semaines de chantier étaient faciles ; on a mangé notre pain blanc en premier.” — The first weeks of the project were easy; we'd done the fun part first.
Origin: White bread was the expensive kind and dark bread the daily one, so eating the good loaf first meant worse to come. It is usually said about someone else's future.
