ProverbWisdomGerman origin

Wer nicht fragt, bleibt dumm

Meaning: If you don't ask questions, you won't learn.

Literally: He who does not ask stays stupid

Example: “Frag den Lehrer ruhig, wenn du etwas nicht verstehst. Wer nicht fragt, bleibt dumm.” — Go ahead and ask the teacher if you don't understand: he who asks is a fool for five minutes, he who doesn't is a fool forever.

Equivalents in English

Origin: It is the last line of the title song of the German Sesame Street, first broadcast in 1973: wer, wie, was – wieso, weshalb, warum – wer nicht fragt, bleibt dumm.
