Same idea, different pictures
Several languages swell the head: a big head in English and French, avoir la grosse tête, or a melon in French slang, avoir le melon. English also outgrows its britches.
French has two grand ones. Se croire sorti de la cuisse de Jupiter is to think yourself born from Jupiter's thigh, like the god Dionysus. Se croire le premier moutardier du pape is to think yourself the pope's chief mustard-maker; the story goes that a pope at Avignon really did create the post. Elsewhere, Estonian walks with its nose up, nina püsti, Albanian struts like a rooster, i rri gjel, and Swedish is stiff in the cork, styv i korken.
